3 Week project! In the Hands of Someone Else!

Have you ever made a 20% project? Have you ever went three weeks working on one thing? Well I have and I’m going to tell you everything thing about it.
A 20% project is a project where you get to pick anything and I mean anything from novels to new apps. It’s where you think of anything language related and make it or write. You don’t have to do it by yourself either you can have a group.
I really liked this idea! I thought it was great, giving a deadline and meeting it and doing something so cool that you had to work on it all the time to be able to get it done in time. For our 20% project we made a children’s picture book, we recorded it on an ipad app so that we could read it to you and were also made a puppet show of the book. At first when we picked our groups we had no idea of what we wanted to do! So then we thought and we thought it would be cool to do a children’s book and that we would other kids books to help us for the outline. Then after we thought of that idea they never stopped we then got the idea to do a puppet show and recoded it and if we really wanted to could make it a digital book and sell it on itunes. The decisions we had to make in this project would have been to think if this project was doable in three weeks and that we would be able to make it look the way we wanted it. We also had to figure out what the problem, setting, characters, and what the book was going to be about. So our book is about a mouse who was at the park and had to walk home alone and when he did the saw the monster brothers who had his car and that is why it is called In The Hands Of Someone Else. Our steps were to create the plotting of the book, write the book, type the book, illustrate the book, laminate the book, then record the book and and make the puppets and do the puppet show, and last but not least hand it in. Some of the things that I liked about the project were we got three weeks to do it and that we got to pick groups. Also how we got to do anything thing we wanted pretty much and we had to make our own decisions about it. I think some of the things that I would change would probably be being organized right from the start sometimes we didn’t know what we were doing like sometimes we made puppets that we didn’t end up using. It was a great learning experience overall and I really enjoyed it.  So if you are ever going to do a 20% project these are some of the things to consider before doing it.

  3. Sami, you did a very nice job of explaining your project, and conveying your feelings about every aspect of your time working on the book. I also appreciate the reflective nature of your post, where you take a critical look at the things that worked well and not so well. Your suggestions of things to change had to do with your own process rather than the project overall, which is good news on my end. Glad you enjoyed the process, I enjoyed reading your final product.
