New Beginnings

If you are reading this, and it is summer, you may realize that the title of the blog has changed... instead of being the Grade 7 Bobcats Blog space, this has now become the Grade 7/8 Salukis Blog space.  The obvious reason for this is that I have taken on a new assignment, moving from South Perth to St.Marys DCVI Elementary, and as such, will be making some changes to the items that have become part of my digital footprint over the past few years.  I mean it as no sign of disrespect to my former students, some of whom may be checking this blog space from time to time. In fact, my last class of grade 7 students still have rights as authors, and are actually the only ones with the rights to post at this time, while we get set up with our new classes in time for September.

I wish everyone well at South Perth, and know that I will see you around in the community, and hopefully in positive ways here on the web.  As for my new students, I look forward to the opportunity to share some of the things that I have learned with you, and also to you showing me a few of your own tricks and tips.

Until September, I hope that everyone has a safe and restful summer, and I look forward to continuing our work in the fall.

Just because you Can, Doesn’t mean you Should !

In class we have been talking about just because you have the privilege to do something doesn’t mean you should do it.  In the movie Jurassic Park  just because they can make dinosaurs doesn’t mean they should. First of all it could be dangerous to other people if the dinosaurs escape, and could eat people because they might be hungry. Second of all,in the second movie the baby T-rex gets captured by the bad guys and hurts it leg. The people that find the T-rex take it, just because they can take it doesn’t mean they should because the mother came back and couldn’t  find her baby, so that meant danger for the people who took it. Third of all just because  you can capture a dinosaur, you probably shouldn’t.  In the movie they capture the mom T-rex, which wasn’t a very good idea. They put medication in her to make her sleep. But the problem was she escaped into San Jose searching for her baby, and in the end she destroyed most of the city but got her baby back. Those are the reasons that just because you can doesn’t mean you should !!!!

Have you done some thing witch you have regrated later... Well if you think about think before you do it you could live you're life more peacfully! witch can help in many different cenarios. Like for example, think of drugs just cause you can find them pretty much any where doesn't mean you should take them cause it might seem like a good idea at the time but the side affects will catch up with you later in you're life witch may even ruin you're life just cause you can doesn't mean you should! THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN.. Also pouluting just cause you can doesn't mean you should when all the icecaps melt and all the polarbears die then you should of thought before you pouluted the earth! THINK ABOUT THE POLAR BEARS!

Could You Do It? But Should You?
In class we are doing Jurassic park for a language project.  While we were watching the movie we were told to keep on the look out for things that begged the question: If you can do it should you do it?  The first thing i noticed was that while they were explaining the way that they made the dinosaurs.  It begs the question.  Why would you bring back a species that could be very dangerous,  and that was already extinct.  They didn’t think that the dinosaurs went extinct for a reason.  This asks the question: Why?!  Another thing was in the second movie.  The people are planning to take a bunch of dinosaurs off of the island they were on so they could be taken to San Jose.  The city has like 10 million people in it.  We as humans trust to much in their technoligy so they thought they could control the dinosaurs and they payed for it.  This just shows that we as humans do not get that just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
These are the just because you can doesn’t mean you should.  

Some things you shouldn't do but you can

    The concept “just because you can doesn’t mean you should” is a powerful concept and these are the reasons why.

   This sentence means that even if you can do something is it safe or should you do it and if you do it would it have consequences or if you were intended to do it. If you decide to do something just because you can it could have a big or small effect on your life if you can do something first consider if you should, before you do it. You make these choices everyday “if you can should you do it”.
   An example is the movie “Jurassic Park” they were so focused on if they could do it they didn’t stop and think if they should. Reasons like some dinosaurs are meant to eat meat/humans also they should've thought of the problems and what could go wrong.
   Another example is when you go outside and you want to catch a butterfly or some kind of bug and then you catch it you have to decide if you want to keep it, and it has a high chance of dieing or set it free and it can still live”just because you can keep it you shouldn't”

Jarrasic Park

During class we are watching the movie series “Jurassic Park” which shows many different examples of just because you can doesn't mean that you should. In this movie it is all about dinosaurs and it shows things that are impossible to do as dinosaurs are currently extinct. Some of the examples in the movie that resemble just because you can doesn't mean you should are Just because you can get out of your car going around a park with live dinosaurs running around beside and everywhere around you doesn't mean that you should. Someone shouldn’t do this because it is very dangerous a dinosaur could just come right up behind you and eat you alive. This is why you should consider the consequences that may follow your decisions and also that just because you can do something doesn't always mean that it's the best thing or that you should do it.
