20% of our time doing...WHAT?!

When i first heard about this project i admit i thought our teacher was absolutely CRAZY! What kind of teacher lets there class spend 20% of there time doing whatever they want! BUT that all changed after i heard more about the project and realized that this is one of the smartest things probably the smartest thing ever!
The 20% project was an experience that I LOVED! So it is practically just for 4 weeks 20% of our time is devoted to anything we want. It has some rules such as: We have to do a project, It has to be language based, and it has to be done by the due date; no exceptions. When I first heard about the project I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted either to do: A movie, Or A Book. I also knew what it was going to be about; It was going to be about an Angel who is getting chased by [what I made up] Takers. Takers were creatures that take the shape of man but are 100 times stronger, faster and they are also hybrid. I started on the book right away and slowly started to film the movie. After filming part of the movie I found it was: Bad filming [my brother's fault], to many mess ups [my fault], and way too Obvious[the cameras fault]. So I decided to do the book. I had gotten pretty far and was confident until I found I had one week to do 100 pages of writing SO after hours worth of thinking I decided I would make the book and movie trailer. So it is Thursday and undoubtedly am NOT finished! I loved the fact that the project gave us free will, I also loved the fact that he did set a reasonable due date on the project he also didn't harass us to get it done.To improve the project i would get a bit more on us about finnishing
because half of the class isn't done, Also if you could be a bit more specific on what EXACTLY you wanted from us....that would be great! This project was awesome and i hope we do it again!!!!!

  4. great post Analee! over all very well done, i liked how you explained the main parts and how it all came together! I found i had the same problems with time and getting it done because if it were up to me i would have wrote WAYYYYYYY more so about the time off the due date i had to cram in typing and end the book early but loved the project!! Really cant wait to read you book :)

  6. Interesting post Analee. I am really glad that you enjoyed the project, and once you got down to task, that you got lots done. I think your comment about deadlines or due dates is valid, but it sounds like you might be looking for checkpoints along the way, which were intentionally left out this time. I wanted to give students the chance to work at their own pace, rather than penalize people for missing checkpoints. For some, that freedom was exactly what they needed, and for others, like you (it seems, from our post), that was a little intimidating. Overall, good reflection on the project, and I encourage you to polish up your book, and consider making a full movie of your story some day. MrB
